[Refs] Well, that didn't work. Sure, anyone with a brain could have called that out a mile away, but look magic is weird and so is a rive of fire. It's not like this is a normal place, or else Isaah would have roasted to death long ago. Ok, ok, ok, pessimism aside, Isaah let out a sigh and gave into even more pessimism. Wait, no, shit, we're supposed to have less, not more. Less, Isaah, less!
Fine.
Isaah turned back to the elder and shrugged. He was uncertain what was left to do now, so he simply followed him back to the runes and all that jazz. Isaah expected, well, hoped that he would say something, or have some idea. Something to keep the story going, to keep things moving. Instead, he did not keep the story moving, he let the story fall to a standstill. Good job elder sprite dude, you're totally winning at life and this plot progression shtick. Don't worry, Isaah will try to get things moving again. Do your job for you. "So... what now?"

The elder seemed to be inspecting the runic platform. They heard Isaah's question but did not seem to address his question. A low sound slithered out of his throat as he still seemed to think. A couple strokes of his flaming beard and a few paces later, he finally spoke. [smear:#98c0d6]"Hmm yes... We need a way to move that river to this platform I think. You see those etchings there, boy? I feel they need to be filled with pure and raw starlight."[/smear:#b892e2:3] The question was, how would they do that?

[Refs] Oh wow, that was going to be a difficult endeavor. Isaah thought for a moment. "It's possible we could dig a channel out through the soil leading towards the platform? Hmm..." The water mage looked around the room, trying to see if there was anything there that could be of use. Something that could be set up or utilized for their purposes. It wasn't exactly like Isaah had a shovel on hand right now.

[smear:#98c0d6]"Mmmmm..." [/smear:#b892e2:3]The fire sprite moved to the edge of the platform, digging out a chunk of the ground. In response, a massive flame burst out. [smear:#98c0d6]"Hmmm perhaps not..."[/smear:#b892e2:3], he mumbled out, blocking the flame back in with the piece of yellow-glowing 'dirt'. He walked back over to the platform, but instead of looking at the runic-engraved floor, went to the structure at the end that looked like a telescope. [smear:#98c0d6]"Hmmm."[/smear:#b892e2:3] He tapped on it, the object making a hollow metal sound, which isn't a sound a telescope would make with all of those lenses in it. The elder seemed to trail around it. [smear:#98c0d6]"Tell me, boy, what is your name?"[/smear:#b892e2:3], he asked. It would be much more polite than calling him Boy all the time like some red streaked angry manchild from some other place I totally made up for the convenient sake of comparing.

[Refs] "Isaah. Isaah Gideon." The young man quietly replied. Of course it wouldn't be as easy as digging a hole. No, this had to be an overly complicated puzzle for no reason. Super simple, clear cut ideas and solutions were illegal and not allowed because that would just be ridiculous now wouldn't it? Pheh. Anyways, the water mage followed the elderly fire sprite, curious as to the massive piece of equipment he was fiddling with. How did I not notice that before?
Usually when there's a big piece of fancy equipment like this, it's a good bet that it'll be some sort of key to the mystery. Isaah quietly looked it over, wondering what it was exactly. It looked like a telescope. However, the knocking upon it told a different story. Complex pieces of equipment didn't exactly sound hollow when you tapped upon it.

[smear:#98c0d6]"Isaah... What a good name for a lad like yourself. My name is Solum Igne."[/smear:#b892e2:3] The elder seemed pleased to learn the name of a new acquaintance. The elder seemed to reach up but fall short.[smear:#98c0d6] "Could you help me tilt this so we can see what this object is?"[/smear:#b892e2:3], the elder asked. He stepped away and seemed to wander towards the nearby lava river. He was confident a strong, young person like Isaah would have no trouble tilting this telescope shaped object.
The elder waited to see what this object truly was so he could brainstorm with Isaah. Meanwhile all those giggly fire sprites that populated the area seemed to stay hidden away. They didn't want to get drenched again. Water bad. Water hurt.

[Refs] "Hmm... alright." Isaah looked over the massive "telescope." To be honest, there was no way he could just move it with his arms. However, he certainly could do it with magic. The young man focused and drew water across the air, creating long tendrils that snaked around the telescope. Using it like rope, the water mage intensified his focus and began to tilt and turn the telescope. Even if it was heavy and cumbersome, Isaah's mastery of water magic would have been enough to force it into place. The young honor's student allowed it a few more finer adjustments, and turned back towards the elder, Solum Igne.
The young man gave a small, fanciful bow as the water evaporated. His job was done, and now hopefully, Elder Igne would be able to puzzle together an idea of how to get Isaah home. Isaah still could see the sprites at the edge of the flames, and with a small from, Isaah looked towards the elder. "Sincerely, I'm sorry for how I acted when I first came here. Is there any way I can make it up to you all?"

The object moved with a groan before enough of its weight made it drop fast. Without the water tendrils tethering it, it would have slammed into the ground and potentially cracked, depending on if it was an ancient relic or just crudely made. Looking into it, there was nothing inside it. No lens to see or magnify with. It was a large funnel.
Elder Igne seemed to interrupt his train of thought and looked up towards Isaah. He then turned around to wards the general direction of the fire sprites that seemed to stay shied away from him. Whispers arose between each other, questioning if he actually meant it, others fearing another lash of frustration after. [smear:#98c0d6]"Ahhhh, you see, we do not typically see mages here. We are of a wandering sort, traveling from star to star, yet we rarely meet anyone who cannot walk on the flaming starlight fields." [/smear:#b892e2:3]
So that explained the fire everywhere. Isaah was miraculously standing on a star without it burning him up like the crispy fish stick he is*. [smear:#98c0d6]"Normally we are able to traverse between stars through bridges. I believe you call these things constellations, yes?" [/smear:#b892e2:3] Did they just meet a dead end or was there something missing about this star that stopped them from their travels?
*Stars may of may not actually have this kind of terrain or life, please don't sue me Lady Nyx. -Glory

[Refs] Isaah had never been happier at his mastery of his magic than right now. Gods, it would have been a nightmare if he accidentally broke that thing. The boy already had enough of a train wreck on his hands. He could hear the frightened whispers in the distance, and he didn't blame them. It was a messy situation for everyone involved. A sea of confusion and bad choices. And boy was he just... dumb sometimes.
The big dumb.
But, the boy listened anyways. Might as well try to be smart, for once. Show he actually had a brain. "Hmmm, so you're more a spiritual sort, traveling pathways in the stars. Interesting. Perhaps that explains how I got here, maybe I accidentally stumbled across one of those pathways?" The boy shook his head. "Well, it's one more piece to the bigger puzzle. Hopefully we can solve it soon. I don't want to cause anymore trouble than I already have."

The elder shrugged. He wasn't sure how Isaah got here, but he figured that some divine force (me, Glory), decided that he was the answer to help them travel to the next star. One of the fire sprites made an uncomfortable shift and then just cautiously stepped out, walking up to the two. [smear:#98c0d6]"Elder Ignis, sir."[/smear:#b892e2:3], she greeted. She looked quickly at the water mage and then back at the elder. [smear:#98c0d6]"If I may.."[/smear:#b892e2:3]
She gestured at the not-telescope. [smear:#98c0d6]"That's a starlight siphon. It's used to make bridges between stars."[/smear:#b892e2:3], she said, seemingly knowing what she's talking about. It seemed that in the old fire sprite's age, that he may have forgotten how these things worked.

[Refs] A starlight siphon? Huh, well, then that could fix the issue with getting starlight into the cracks that the elder wanted them into. Hmm. That begging the question though... how the actual fuck were you supposed to use this? Isaah looked over the big hunk of junk equipment, checking inside and outside to just study the thing. It was massive, sounded hollow, and likely was. Maybe if he turned it like a telescope at one of the stars, the thing would siphon off the starlight?
The young man scratched the side of his head. The fuck kind of loser made up this puzzle (you, Glory). Isaah looked towards the two fire sprites, hoping either of them would have the answers. "So... how exactly do you use this thing, then?" Please tell me it's not the completely fucking obvious answer and I'm asking for no reason. Isaah's hair was going to grey decades before its time from all this stress.

[smear:#98c0d6]"W-well.." [/smear:#b892e2:3]She gestured at the large object. [smear:#98c0d6]"We have to guide a stream of starlight into it. Normally, these are already done from our ancestors but something disrupted the flow this this path to the next star. It could be anything. A cool spot, a shift of the star's land."[/smear:#b892e2:3] Land was a loose term considering that the place was on fire. But it made sense once you put the differences of the surface they were on versus the molten stream nearby.
She looked at the stream. [smear:#98c0d6] "We need to flood the platform over there in a way that doesn't cover the whole thing, but powers it enough to make a bridge to the next star."[/smear:#b892e2:3], she said. Good luck.

[Refs] "Hoo boy... alright." So, there were no shovels, and if he were to disturb the ground, it would ignite in flames. However... back at the introductory sight, he did scar the soil with dark spots, cooled by his water. "Please stand back. I'd... genuinely rather not cause anyone anymore pain. Besides... I need to focus."
Focus was an understatement. He was going to need to use every ounce of mental concentration he had. Isaah created a dense tendril of water and drove it into the flaming soil, burrowing it and cooling it until it was blackened. The whole time, he was straining his mind and extending his focus as much as possible to condense any steam he created all the way back into pure fluid. He couldn't let anything escape, or let his digging tool be destroyed. Isaah had masterful control of his magic, so this wasn't truly intense for him, but it still required enough effort that by the time he had dug to the edge of the river, he had started to sweat. All it took was one final push, and then a sudden yank as the thin soil wall broke away to let the starlight river flow. Isaah had to save the water as much as possible now more than ever, because once that platform was full, he needed to cool the break point to stop it from flooding. If it was like magma or lava, than the introduction of water would turn it to solid rock. Hopefully, this would all work out and he could genuinely apologize to these people.

The fire sprite seemed to give him a questionable gaze but helped moved the elder out of the way. There were many eyes on the water mage. He seemed to promise not to bring them more harm, controlling his rage and using his power to help them instead.
His plan seemed to work though, the ground now scarred with a trench that the starlight river began to seep into. It wasn't fast, in fact the flow was very much like lava. It was slow but seemed to be tracking over its new path pretty smoothly. Now it was a matter of watching it funnel into the platform's crevices. It didn't need a whole lot, and it was tricky to see how much it needed. If it overflowed, they'd need to clear out the fill so that way the platform can work without interference.
The funneled starlight sank into the runes and rings of the platform, sharing a brilliant arcane circle now filling with a brilliant golden light. It wasn't too long before the platform fill up to the brim, the level of starlight matching the platform's and sending a brilliant white shockwave around. A bridge of a faint white, decorated with gold sparkles shot out from the platform, aimed at the nearest star and seemed to stretch on forever.

[Refs] As the surroundings filled, the water mage made sure to cut the flow just as the starlight bridge was created. Overflowing it now, right when he'd figured it out, would be absolutely insulting. But, it seemed that he managed to get it just right. The young man let out a small sigh and turned to look at the two sprites. "Well, there you go. Bridge created."
