Name: Generally known as The Faded, also called Revenants, Empties or Vessels.
Appearance: A Faded's appearance can heavily vary dependent on what they were before they died although they all share a set of traits. A Faded appears bleached of colour, they can possess colours on their body but even clothing they put on becomes faded and difficult to distinguish after only a few hours. Their eyes have black sclerae and usually grey or white irises and they all appear gaunt with sunken sockets.
There are two variants of Faded, the Hollow Faded and the Hungering Faded. There are only two ways to tell them apart. Hungering Faded possess doubled canines that are long and wickedly sharp, Hollow Faded on the other hand instead have strange spikes of black or grey crystal that grows from under their skin, sometimes in little clusters, sometimes in large spikes or spires.
Elemental Affinity: Shadow
-Permanent: All Faded have Shadow, Hollow have Undeath, Hungering have Plague.
Behavior: The Faded are created due to a phenomenon known as an Engulfed Soul. Sometimes, during death, a creature's soul is not taken onwards into the cycle or beyond to the purelands but instead ends up between realms due to a convalescence of elemental energies. This most commonly happens during war after death by multiple spells of varying elements at once. The Soul then resides between realms, seeking life, craving to have a vessel once more.
Soon another will die in the place of the Convalescence and their body will be co-opted by the Engulfed Soul. This soul will take over the body, returning it to a state that it can function in. The method of death and how long the Soul was left before it found a host will determine whether the Faded is Hollow or Hungering. Hollow are much older souls and the influence of the emptiness between realms stays within them, lurking within their blood, which forms the creation of the strange crystals that grow out of them. Hungering are the younger ones that still have the wish to live and act and usually become incredibly energetic when 'born' and flee to seek out the pleasures of life once more.
Faded are usually left wandering after they are 'born' at least until the Visions start. Each Faded always ends up struck with visions of the future but they are never aware of what this future is or whose future it is. The visions are cryptic and always of a terrifying and dangerous nature for, unknown to the Faded, they bring calamity with them and their magical energy knows this, resulting in a gradual increase in terror and foreboding as the events of the vision draw closer. Thus as a Faded grows older, they become paranoid and frantic, they know what it is like to be trapped without death and they seek to flee from it as much as they can.
