Affinity is rolled on a 1d100 die to determine your character's strength within the elements they are trying to use. 1-3 denotes basic magic and can be any one element or subelement of choice. 4-6 determines an intermediate level of affinity within the domain and allows for the user to either wield two (sub)elements at base or one element with a slightly more advanced set of spells. 7-9 allows for the user to wield up to three (sub)elements at base, two (sub)elements with one being intermediate, or one element up to advanced spells. Rolling a 10 is a very special case, allowing for users to unlock an extremely rare subelement type if they choose and wield spells specific to that type of magic.
When picking your domains, make sure it sticks to the theme of the character. If an element does not work with the character as a whole, do not add it into the character. You can try to see if you can make an alternative spell within the domain your character does have instead of giving them an element that does not work with their buildup.
Basic: Any basic subtype within a domain
███ Single (sub)element up to level 3 spells
Intermediate: Any uncommon subtype within a domain
██████ Dual (sub)elements up to level 3 spells
or
██████ Single (sub)element up to level 6 spells
Advanced: Any rare subtype within a domain
█████████ Triple (sub)elements up to level 3 spells
or
█████████ Dual (sub)elements, one up to level 6 spells, one up to level 3 spells
or
█████████ Single (sub)element up to level 9 spells
Special case:
██████████ Special element or (sub)element of choice up to level 10 spells
Mages can up their affinity within their elements to 7 by doing trainings referencing the word count with the table below. You cannot train these in bulk and they have a cool down of 1 affinity level per week regardless of if it is your primary element or not.
Additionally, mages can train with other characters, NPC or PC in a group training. The word count is totaled between all parties training and they can play out a scene together where all words accumulated for that will count for all spells and affinities trained up.
Excess words left over can be used to shorten another training, either solo or group. Addendum to larger trainings: For affinity gains with large word counts outside of writing lengths you are comfortable with, you can break them up between training posts as long as they are not used for spells to accumulate the required word count. These trainings can be short story inserts for the character but must be posted in the training sections.
